Messe Frankfurt to open an office in Beijing in May 2003
Messe Frankfurt is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Beijing, as of May 2003. Messe Frankfurt Beijing will be a branch office of Messe Frankfurt Shanghai, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Messe Frankfurt GmbH since March 2002.
The primary function of the Beijing office will be to expand Chinese participation at Messe Frankfurt trade fairs in Germany and around the world. Through local recruitment activities and close liaison with trade associations in Beijing, Messe Frankfurt will raise awareness of its international portfolio of trade fairs and build relationships with local industry representatives.
"The participation of Chinese companies at Messe Frankfurt trade fairs around the world is growing rapidly," says Mr. Michael von Zitzewitz, Chairman of the Board of Management for Messe Frankfurt GmbH. "In 2002, over 1,500 Chinese exhibitors and 2,200 Chinese visitors came to our fairs in Frankfurt; that's an enormous increase on previous years. We expect this trend to continue in line with China's economic development and growing volume of international trade."
"Our objective in opening a second office in mainland China, is to show Chinese manufacturers from Beijing and the north-eastern regions that if they want to sell their products in Europe, they can find top-quality marketing platforms at Messe Frankfurt trade fairs. Current events in China may be casting a pall over business for the next few months, but even during this critical period Messe Frankfurt will continue to develop and solidify its business there. We are in the China market for the long-term."
Messe Frankfurt Beijing will be under the supervision of General Manager Mr. Zhao Wei Ping, who joined Messe Frankfurt in February 2002 to run the Shanghai operation. Mr. Zhao will remain stationed in Shanghai.
Deputy General Manager Ms Wendy Wen, a 15-year veteran of the international exhibition business, will be responsible for the daily running of the Beijing office, and for the turn-key business out of Beijing. Messe Frankfurt's trade fairs in Beijing, which include Automechanika China, ISH China and Intertextile, will continue to be organised and promoted by the Hong Kong team with support from Shanghai.
Messe Frankfurt has been active in Greater China since 1987. The company currently organises 14 trade fairs in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Dongguan and Guangzhou, which focus on five key market sectors: textiles, automotive, building & construction, consumer goods, and music & sound.
