Fair reinforced as a gateway into China’s industrial automation and manufacturing markets

SIAF is an important meeting point for exhibitors looking to expand their businesses in the region. Many leading brands seized the opportunity to showcase their latest advancements and competitive advantages to attendees this year.

For loyal exhibitors, such as Phoenix Contact (China) Holding Co Ltd from Germany, the fair provided a fantastic opportunity to capitalise on the growing manufacturing markets in South China. On display was an array of their latest industrial automation, interconnection and interface solutions. The company’s Market Communications Event Management Specialist, Strategic Sales and Marketing Operations, Mr Fang Xu, shared: “SIAF is one of the leading industrial automation fairs in South China. Our continued participation since the inaugural edition proves our trust and confidence in the fair. It is constantly able to attract professional buyers from across the region and this year is no exception. We met with a large group of target clients who presented genuine enquiries on our products. Additionally, we are also very pleased that SIAF is held concurrently with Asiamold. Not only did this help increase the visitor flow but also acted as a bridge for various manufacturing industries. This platform is exactly what suppliers need to succeed in the current Industry 4.0 era.”

An industry giant from Germany, Beckhoff Automation (Shanghai) Co Ltd, also returned to the 2017 show and benefited from the business connections made onsite. Mr Chen Min Jie, Company Representative, shared: “Not only is this the first automation fair in the calendar year, but it is also a useful platform in gathering industry specialists worldwide. We were approached by tobacco and clothing companies as well as clients from electronic, plastic and metal industries. Buyers came with clear objectives, which really help us target their needs. Furthermore, additive manufacturing is an industry that cannot be overlooked and its technologies, as well as applications are paramount to the world of manufacturing. Hosting both automation fair and Asiamold concurrently will without a doubt be beneficial to our business.”

Bernecker + Rainer Industrial Automation (China) Co Ltd, a first-time exhibitor to the fair, attended in order to expand its company brand and promote its range of controller, visualisation and drive technologies. Mr Song Hua Zhen, Marketing Manager of the company, expressed: “South China is a crucial market for the manufacturing industry in China and is a market the company cannot afford to miss. We chose to exhibit at SIAF because it highlights a number of topics and themes and its ability to draw industry buyers. Buyers visiting our booth not only had extensive technical backgrounds but also came to share with us genuine manufacturing problems they are facing. The concurrent events are also very specific and targeted. Placing similar natured fairs together will help increase brand promotion and provide a good opportunity for fairgoers to gain better understanding of the manufacturing industry as a whole.”

Delta Electronics Inc, another first-time exhibitor, attended the fair to promote their brand and the company’s latest industrial automation equipment. Mr Chen Zhifeng, Company Representative from Delta Electronics Inc, said: “Taking place in the first quarter of the fiscal year, SIAF is one of the most important industry events in the South China region. I am pleased with the 2017 fair as it gathered large numbers of quality visitors to our booth. What is more, the buyers at our booth showed great interest in our products from drivers, to motion sensors and control devices and this is exactly what we had hoped for. Hosting Asiamold together not only brought both manufacturing sectors closer but also enriched the fairs exhibition scope for fair participants.”

There were many buyers who came from across the world with different requirements and demands such as Lenovo Information Products (Shenzhen) Co Ltd. Returning to the show for the third time was Mr Chen Ji, Automation Senior Manager from the company. He expressed: “Our company is in the process of upgrading our production line and I visited this edition of SIAF with 20 production engineers. Every year, the show gathers a majority of the automation industry which provided us all with an abundance of technical insights for our business. Our company also uses 3D printers in our manufacturing process and the fact that the show is held with Asiamold effectively helps our sourcing needs. We will without a doubt be at the fair again next year.”

Also experiencing a fruitful trade fair was the buyer Mr Cheng Geng from the Facilities Maintenance Manufacturing Department at Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, who was sourcing the latest industrial automation solutions to expand their company’s business. He shared: “The products that interested us the most were the robotics and robotic accessory suppliers. With labour cost on the rise, we were looking for ways to cost-effectively upgrade our production line and were delighted to have connected with a number of companies who we have high chances of working with in the future. SIAF is a comprehensive platform for learning about new technologies and it is important for engineers like myself to be here to learn about how to adapt for production.”

Concurrent seminars gathered influential speakers from around the world and simulated knowledge exchange

Apart from its diversity, both brand- and product-wise, the show is also well known for its strong line-up of concurrent events. The 2017 event programme featured over 100 presentations that addressed an array of topics related to industrial automation, Industry 4.0, connectivity, sensor technologies and more. The events highlighted a wide range of issues and opportunities delivered by influential featured speakers to stimulate new idea creation and assist audience members to formulate business strategies.

One of the seminar speakers, Mr Jack Cheng, Vice Director of Technical & Products Management from NORD (China) Power Transmission Co Ltd, commented: “The concurrent events provide a good chance for participants to learn about what is happening in Asia’s manufacturing market and to exchange ideas. Industry 4.0 continues to be an important trend for manufacturers which also reaffirms the importance of this trading platform. I am amazed by the number of attendees. In the future, I hope to meet with more industry specialists from different parts of the world to enrich the diversity of communication.”

Returning speaker, Mr Henry Li, Ph.D., MIEAust, R&D Center, Vice President Research & Development from Lenze Drive Systems (Shanghai) Co Ltd, shared equal satisfaction for having the chance to present his company’s latest drives systems and provide insight on industry trends. Industry 4.0 and ‘Made in China 2025’ are two of the most heated topics within the industry and SIAF is one of the top sourcing platforms in South China where it brings me up-to-speed with the industry’s latest regional developments.”

Conference attendee, Mr Ceng Xianfeng, Vice President and Founder at Guangzhou Ugenius IT Co Ltd, praised the wealth of information available at the fair. He commented: “I work for an IT company and we are currently developing testing and monitoring systems to enhance the safety of construction workers. Since automated control systems are required for this project, I attended SIAF for the first time to learn more about the industry and the products. Apart from the exhibition, the seminars categorised in their respective themed halls really helped me target speakers and topics, allowing me to gain better understanding of specific industry sectors. I am certain the knowledge I gained will be beneficial to our future product development.”
